City of Cambridge

Jan Devereux

Councillor devereux

Jan Devereux is currently serving her first term on the Cambridge City Council. Jan brings a unique perspective as a writer, communicator and neighborhood leader to the Council.

A longtime resident, Jan deepened her community involvement by founding the Fresh Pond Residents Alliance—a neighborhood organization that brought residents into the conversation about planning for the future development of the Alewife area. The FPRA helped inform and engage residents with short- and long-term plans for transportation, open space, housing affordability, and environmental sustainability.

Through her service on the Council Jan aims to engage Cantabrigians with their shaping the city’s future and enhancing the quality of life in neighborhoods citywide. Jan is passionate about broadening civic engagement, preserving neighborhood character and socio-economic diversity, improving transportation infrastructure and pedestrian and bike safety, and protecting Cambridge’s natural resources and open space. Jan is currently the Chair of the Health and Environment Committee and the Economic Development and  University Relations Committee.

Jan has been proud to call Cambridge home since 1993. She raised her three children in West Cambridge with her husband Peter Johnson, who works as a substance abuse counselor. Before joining the Council, Jan worked in marketing communications at area schools. She holds a BA in English from Princeton University and an MBA in marketing from Columbia University.

Jan is happy to meet with residents and other stakeholders. To contact Jan, please email or call 781-296-2969. You can also follow her on Twitter at @jandev or contact her through her website,
