Mayor Siddiqui’s Office and the City of Cambridge have displayed 121 white flags on City Hall lawn to mark the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the Cambridge community. The flag memorial will be displayed from Sunday, March 14, 2021 through Saturday, March 20, 2021.
“It is hard to believe we’ve endured an entire year of COVID-19 impacting our daily lives, and it’s important to take time to reflect on the many lives we’ve sadly lost to COVID-19,” said Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, “I want this visual memorial to remind us of those 121 Cambridge lives we tragically lost throughout the year, and to provide us with comfort as we move forward.”
This visual representation serves to honor and commemorate a solemn anniversary for the City of Cambridge, but also provides a powerful statement about how much the community has overcome in the face of adversity. Far beyond a number, these lives lost were family members, friends, community members, and residents of a city who will continue to honor their lives.
