RECESS! is a free, safe, in-person summer program designed specifically for and with Cambridge’s middle schoolers to provide new and engaging experiences, as they emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting June through October 2021, Mayor Siddiqui will partner with Cambridge Public Schools to host a second year of CPS Community Resource Fairs. These Community Fairs encourage parents and caregivers to join their children to connect with different resources available, receive free books, supplies, and more.
June is Pride Month, a month in which Cambridge celebrates and honors the LGBTQ+ community and its diversity. This year, Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui has partnered with the City’s LGBTQ+ Commission to host two live performances at Starlight Square on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
From January through May 2021, Mayor Siddiqui partnered with Cambridge Public Library to host Virtual Story Time with the Mayor to read some of her favorite books to our youngest Cantabrigians. Parents and caregivers were encouraged to join their children in listening to stories such as Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry and All Because You Matter by Tami Charles, both read in February to honor Black History Month.
During the ongoing public health crisis, Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui launched a virtual “Coffee Hours with the Mayor.” These individualized sessions have been a wonderful opportunity for Cambridge residents to meet with Mayor Siddiqui face-to-face, ask questions, and voice their feelings during a time where many people needed an outlet and direct access to an elected official.
Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui is continuing the tradition of celebrating Ramadan during COVID-19 by providing nearly 700 Iftar meals to hundreds of Cambridge families.
Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui announced today plans to launch a new Guaranteed Income Pilot Initiative, providing much-needed support for Cambridge’s most vulnerable residents. The initiative will offer $500 no-strings-attached monthly payments to 120 eligible single caretaker households over an 18-month period beginning in August. Participants will be chosen by lottery.
