The City of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Geographic Information System (GIS) City-Wide 3D project provides a detailed three-dimensional model including the terrain, groundplan and buildings of the city. The city-wide model has been cut into one-kilometer squares for exchange with 3D design tools. Each file associated with the tiled 3D model is named with the prefix CAMB3D_ then the tile name, e.g. G5_, then the name of the dataset.
The buildings layer was developed from stereo photogrammetric methods, capturing the roof-details larger than 1 Meter with a precision of about 10 centimeters. The roof-print of the building is projected to a terrain model to create a 3D building volume. COLLADA is the leading open exchange format. It can be imported by most 3D modeling tools.
Building models are assigned to the model tile according to the tile that the model's center appears. COLLADA is the leading open exchange format. It can be imported by most 3D modeling tools.
This buildings model is useful as a visual reference for the shape and location of buildings. It can be used as a setting for design studies, and solar roof analysis.

The C3D_Buildings layer was initially built using aerial photography from April 2010 by Infotec USA. 80 buildings were added based on imagery from April 2014. Photogrammetric development of the 3D building models was conducted by CyberCity 3D.
Universal Transverse Mercator Zone 19, WGS84. Origin of each dataset has been shifted to tile center.
The tile frame included with each tiled data set can be used to register the buildings layer with the tiled terrain model or with neighboring tiles.
