11 New Officers Join the Cambridge Police Department

The Cambridge Police Department today announced that 11 new police officers joined the department after successfully completing their 24-week training and graduating from the Lowell Police Academy.

After graduating from the Lowell Police Academy on Friday, Officers Miltiades Antonopoulos, Daniel Bartlett, Zachary Brown, Daniel Callinan, Jonathan Evans, Stephen Lenkauskas, Joseph Nicotra, Brian O'Regan, Christina Pasquarello, Brielle Sorey and David Tauro were sworn in by City Clerk Donna Lopez in front of their family and friends. A Welcome Ceremony was held this morning in City Hall for the new officers. In attendance were City Manager Louis DePasquale, Deputy City Manager Lisa Peterson, members of City Council, Cambridge Fire Department Chief Gerry Mahoney, and former and current members of the Cambridge Police Department.    

Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville Bard stated, “Friday’s graduation was a symbol of your commitment to law enforcement. You no longer have a job, you now have a career.” 

City Manager Louis DePasquale added, “I want to congratulate each and every one of you because the Police Academy is a lot of work and to become a Cambridge Police Officer is not easy. You should be really proud of what you have already accomplished.”

Notable facts about the 2017 class:

  • Officer David Tauro, who was the Valedictorian and President of the 2017 class, was awarded the Captain Steven Smith Academic Achievement Award.
  • Tauro obtained the Highest Physical Fitness Score along with Officer Daniel Bartlett.
  • Officer Joseph Nicotra received the Outstanding Tactics and Abilities Award.
  • Officer Brian O’Regan is a son of a Cambridge Fire Lieutenant and grandson of a Cambridge Police officer. 
  • Officer Christina Pasquarello is the niece of a retired Cambridge Police officer and daughter of the former Police Chief of Somerville.
  • Two officers (Zackary Brown and Joseph Nicotra) served in the military.
  • Officers Miltiades Antonopoulos and Stephen Lenkauskas formerly worked for the City of Cambridge’s Traffic, Parking and Transportation Department and Cambridge Public Schools, respectively.
  • Officer Brielle Sorey joined the Cambridge Police Department after serving as an intern with the Cambridge Police Department’s Personnel Unit.
  • Officers Tauro and Jonathan Evans previously worked for the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.
