CRLS Class of ’21 Honored with Plantings, Danehy Park Clean Up Day

CRLS Graduation Stage

The City of Cambridge hosted the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School graduation for the Class of 2021 on Thursday, June 10 at Danehy Park. Nearly 400 students and their families attended the outdoor event, facilitated by the Department of Human Service Programs' Recreation Division and Danehy Park staff, in coordination with Cambridge Public Works, Cambridge Police, Cambridge Fire, the Traffic, Parking and Transportation Department, the Electrical Department, and Cambridge Public Schools. A variety of plantings decorated the ceremony’s stage and event space. The plantings will be distributed to parks, plazas, and other locations across the city in recognition of the Class of ’21; like the CRLS graduates, the plants will continue to grow, but will always have roots in Cambridge.

CRLS students also took a hands-on approach to beautifying the city in honor of CRLS Seniors. With the support of DHSP's Recreation Division, including Danehy Park staff, sophomores Zoe Mello Zdraveski and Ellie Harmon organized a Danehy Park Clean Up Day as a gift from the Class of ’23 to the Class of ’21. “We wanted to create this cleanup day to build community and get people together in service of their local green spaces again after a year that has made that difficult,” explained Zdraveski and Harmon. “We hope the cleanup brought students together in service of their local park, raised some awareness around plastic waste, and made it at least a little cleaner and safer for everybody.” Twenty-eight students volunteered at the event, held the Saturday after graduation.
