In January 2020, Just A Start (JAS) purchased a 43,800 sf site located at 52 New Street for the development of affordable housing.  JAS is 50 year-old community development corporation and a non-profit organization engaged in the building, preservation and maintenance of affordable housing.

The acquisition of this site was funded by the Cambridge Affordable Housing Trust.  Just A Start plans to build 100%-affordable housing on the property, and will begin work to plan for this new development later this year.  JAS plans to begin a community process in late 2020 with a goal of beginning construction on new affordable housing there in early 2022.

The site is located in close proximity to the many amenities of Neighborhood Nine including the Fresh Pond reservoir, the Fresh Pond shopping center and Danehy Park which borders the New Street property.
