Cambridge Businesses Honored at 2023 Legacy Luncheon Awards

On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, the City of Cambridge kicked off National Small Business Month by hosting the Cambridge Legacy Business Luncheon. This event celebrates some of the oldest businesses in Cambridge.

Sixteen local businesses, representing a variety of neighborhoods and specialties, were presented with awards recognizing their rich contribution to Cambridge's retail environment. Each of the businesses have been in operation for over 25 years or more and nominated by a member of the Cambridge community. This year’s honorees include Black-owned, women-owned, and veteran-owned businesses, as well as businesses owned by entrepreneurs with disabilities and LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs.

Congratulations to the 2023 winners honored at the event:

  • Al Bara Market, established in 1998
  • Cambridge Artists Cooperative, established in 1978
  • Central Square Florist, established in 1929
  • Charlie's Kitchen, established in 1951
  • Cheapo Records, established in 1976
  • Colman Electric Inc., established in 1989
  • Daniel R. Spirer Jewelers, established in 1982
  • Frank's Steak House, established in 1938
  • Guitar Stop, established in 1962
  • Hubba Hubba, established in 1978
  • Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage, established in 1960
  • Pandemonium Books & Games Inc., established in 1987
  • Royal Pastry Shop, established in 1941
  • Seven Stars, established in 1988
  • The Door Store, established in 1959
  • Zina's Hair Salon, established in 1988

 

Honorees were chosen according to the Legacy Business Program application and cross-referenced with historical records, state registries, and news articles.
