Watershed Division

The Watershed Management Division is responsible for the preservation, protection, and management of the City's watershed and reservoirs. The ultimate goal of the division is to maximize and control the quality and quantity of raw water provided to the water treatment plant.

The Watershed Management Division's responsibilities include:

  • The management and operation of the City's three reservoirs, Hobbs Brook, Stony Brook, and Fresh Pond Reservoir, as well as the underground finished water reservoir at Payson Park in Belmont;
  • The maintenance and protection of City-owned lands;
  • The development and implementation of watershed protection and emergency response plans;
  • The development of partnerships with watershed businesses and municipalities; 
  • The implementation of the water quality monitoring and site monitoring programs; and
  • The management of Fresh Pond Reservation.
