Through the aggressive, coordinated action of firefighters the fire in this 125 year old building was contained & extinguished. This difficult to access fire was burning in void spaces between ceilings & floors, and between walls. In the early stages of the fire, a child day care center on the 1st floor of the building was evacuated in an orderly manner. The children and staff were relocated to a safe location. During the primary search, firefighters also rescued a pet rabbit. The rabbit was left in the care Professional Ambulance medics and EMTs for evaluation and safe keeping away from the smoke.
Approximately 25 residents were displaced. Temporary housing was found for all.
There were several non-life-threatening injuries to firefighters.
The cause and origin will be under investigation.
Group 1 was on duty.
