For centuries, poets, philosophers, and traditional healers have praised the benefits of communing with nature. Inspired by the natural world, Beethoven composed great music, the English poet William Wordsworth wrote great poems, and traditional healers developed their natural therapies. In The Nature Fix, Florence Williams sets out to uncover the science behind nature’s positive effects on the brain. From the fragrant cypress forests in Korea, where Williams travels to meet the rangers who administer a forest healing program, to a river trip in Idaho with Iraqi veterans suffering from PTSD, Williams investigates the science at the confluence of environment, mood, health, and creativity and demonstrates that small amounts of exposure to the living world can improve our creativity and enhance our health. The Nature Fix is a must read for climate preparedness week, as climate change is a threat to nature and its therapeutic powers. The Cambridge Public Library will host a moderated community conversation of The Nature Fix on Wednesday, September 26, from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM, in the Community Room. Join us for what promises to be an exciting conversation.”

Join us for a discussion of The Nature Fix by Florence Williams in celebration of climate resiliency week, September 24 - September 30.

This event is in partnership with CREW: Communities Responding to Extreme Weather.
