Session 1: Monday, November 5, 2018 – 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Introduction to Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction is the first of 3 classes on Mindfulness that will be offered in the Cambridge Public Library. The session will present an overview of mindfulness-based stress reduction and will introduce participants to mindfulness and meditation from an experiential view as taught in the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction course developed 35 years ago at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Session 2: Mindfulness-based Parenting 1. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 - 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
The second session of the series will focus on applying mindfulness to child raising. Parenting is one of the most challenging adventures we can experience. Even the most calm, experienced parents can get rattled when their child intuits just the right buttons to push. These classes will offer an opportunity to explore and practice using mindfulness right in the heart of day to day parenting. In each class participants will consider their own experiences as well as those of the children they are raising. Compassion and humor are essential requirements for parenting and we will incorporate those practices into the course.
Session 3: Mindfulness-based Parenting 2. Monday, January 7, 2019 - 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
The third session of the series will be attended by both parents and their children. In the third class, parents will practice hands on mindfulness with their children present. Parents will use moment by moment awareness to tune into their children and help facilitate healthy relationships based on clear seeing of what is present and what would be most helpful or skillful. The sessions will also help parents to develop the relationship between mindfulness and parenting with a view towards experiencing mindfulness in action; provide parents new insights into themselves, their children and their family relationships, and improve the capacity of parents to understand their children better and to improve harmony in their families. Ages are 5 – 13.
We encourage you to attend all 3 classes, although attending 1 or 2 will offer some helpful hints.
