    • IFP Summer Program: Project Buzz

Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

Project Buzz is a completely free “learning by doing” summer program for teens offered by Innovators for Purpose in partnership with the Cambridge Public Library. Over the course of five weeks, students will build an augmented reality software product to generate excitement about the Hive, the Library’s new makerspace and STEAM creativity zone, due to open in early 2020. Students will become proficient using AR content creation tools including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, as well as in VR authoring tools such as Tiltbrush to create 3D assets that can then be input into Snapchat and Instagram Lens Studio. They will learn how to approach problems using a systematic yet creative process, gain skills through a practical outlet, and have the satisfaction of building a real-word, useful product for a good cause. Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high potential diverse youth, especially those from untapped populations, unearthing passions, cultivating skills, and building their intrinsic motivation to become creators capable of producing innovative solutions to the most complex problems in their communities and the world around them. Design lead Charity Everett is a Creative Technologist, Storyteller, Performer and Research Fellow at MIT Open Documentary Lab and Harvard University’s Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning. Her work has been featured at MIT, Harvard, Spaces(s) Gallery, and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. She has presented at the MIT Media Lab, Harvard’s event Art Tech Psyche IV, and Afropunk event Resist(Dance). She was a 2016 Oculus Launchpad Fellow, IDEA New Rochelle Resident, AR VR Women Futurist in Residence, and 2019 recipient of the Virtual World Society Nextant Award Rising Star Prize Winner.
