    • Queer Terror: Life, Death, and Desire in the Settler Colony

Main Library, Lecture Hall, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

Presented by Prof. C. Heike Schotten, Department of Political Science, University of Massachusetts Boston Why is the War on Terror so resilient? What makes its toxic culture of Islamophobia so destructive to those whom it targets? Why are Muslims such a political football in American public life and political discourse? In this talk, Prof. Schotten will discuss the connections between the War on Terror, the settler conquest of North America, and Israeli state policy toward the Palestinians in order to better understand US “terrorism” discourse, which has deep and unexpected resonances with notions of queerness. Paying attention to the unexpectedly queer connections and continuities between the War on Terror, US settler colonialism, and Israeli apartheid not only foregrounds their operative commonalities and but also presents uniquely queer strategies of resistance to them. C. Heike Schotten is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where she teaches political theory, feminist theory, and queer theory.
