    • Black History Month Exhibition: Kencaid The Paper Clip Artist

      Kenneth Headly, aka Kencaid, was born an draised in Cambridge and still calls the city home. Headley creates images of Cambridge and Boston landmarks using a unique method: he sketches the bare lines of the work on his canvas, burns the lines of the prospective piece with a wood burner, and applies paint to the outline using a paper clip. Kencaid's work will be on display at the Main Library from February 10 - 22. Join us for the opening reception on February 12 at 6 PM in the Community Room.

      It's a weekly block party! Join friends to design and build amazing LEGO structures. Let your imagination run wild! The Children's Room has plenty of LEGO pieces, so you don't need to bring your own. LEGO pieces are choking hazards for young children. For children ages 5 and up and their caregivers.     • HLS Tax Assistance

      Main Library, Community Room, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      Tax Assistance for 2020 will run from February 3 through April 13 in the Main Library's Community Room on Fridays 12 - 4pm, Saturdays 10am - 3:30pm, and Mondays from 5pm - 7:30pm. There will be no tax help on February 17 (Presidents' Day) or March 13, 14, 16, 20 or 21 due to Harvard's Spring Break. This program is available to people who generally make $56,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English speaking taxpayers. Due to capacity constraints and training requirements, we will be unable to prepare returns for any taxpayers in the U.S. on a visa, including foreign students and teachers. Space is limited. Tickets will be handed out on a first-come first-served basis on the day of the program when the Main Library opens. To get your taxes done you MUST bring: Your social security card or other government issued ID showing your social security number (a W-2 is not sufficient) Government issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.) Social security cards for all dependents (and spouse if filling a joint return) Any tax forms you have received (W-2, 1099-HC, etc.) TaxHelp is an all volunteer group from Harvard Law School. The program is extremely popular every year and, while Tax Help tries to accommodate everyone, service is not guaranteed. Here is a list of other VITA sites in the area.       Harvard Book Store, Mass Humanities, and the Cambridge Public Library welcomes Alexis Coe—author of the award-winning Alice + Freda Forever: A Murder in Memphis—for a discussion of her latest book, You Never Forget Your First: A Biography of George Washington. She will be joined by Noah Feldman. Alexis Coe is the award-winning author of Alice + Freda Forever: A Murder in Memphis. Coe has frequently appeared on CNN and the History Channel, and has contributed to the New York Times, the New Yorker, and many other publications. She is a host of Audible’s Presidents Are People Too! and No Man’s Land. Coe holds a graduate degree in American history and was a research curator at the New York Public Library. She lives in Brooklyn, New York. Noah Feldman is the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. In 2003 he served as senior constitutional advisor to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq. Selected as a Rhodes Scholar, he earned a D.Phil. in Oriental Studies from Oxford University in 1994. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1997. He is the author of eight books: The Three Lives of James Madison, Cool War, Scorpions, The Fall and Rise of the Islamic State, Divided by God, What We Owe Iraq, and After Jihad. He most recently co-authored Constitutional Law, Eighteenth Edition with Kathleen Sullivan.
