      We are now accepting returns of any Minuteman Library Network materials at the Boudreau Branch, generally on Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Leave your items in the large basket outside the door. For your health and safety, please do not touch any other items in the returns basket. It may take up to one week for items to be removed from your card. During the COVID-19 crisis, no overdue fines are being charged on any materials checked out of Cambridge Public Library locations. You may also return any Minuteman Library Network materials via the Main Library outside book drop (available 24/7). We are also offering limited return hours at other branch locations, subject to scheduling changes. Please check the library calendar or call the Main Library at 617-349-4040 for up-to-date information on return hours at all locations.

    • Virtual STEAM Story Time: Autumn Leaves

      We invite children and their grownups to join us from home for 20-25 minutes of stories and hands-on activities. Caregivers are asked to participate in the program as they will be exploring STEAM with a variety of materials! Gather activity materials before Story Time if you plan to participate in the hands-on activities. Register below. Zoom link will be emailed to registrants one hour before the program begins. Virtual STEAM Story Time is free and open to the public and is not recorded. If you register but later find you cannot attend, please remember to cancel your registration to make space for others.

      Borrow a bag of pre-selected library books for your kids and teens! Drop by this pop-up event outside your neighborhood branch and pick up a bag of 3-5 library books for your young readers. Title selections will be curated by Cambridge Public Library Youth Services Librarians. Please wear a face covering and maintain 6 feet of distance between yourself, Library Staff, and other patrons. Bins will also be available for library returns.

      Augmented Stories: Augmented Stories is a collaborative, community arts, and storytelling program that provides opportunities to create and share creative work with audiences. It utilizes augmented reality (AR) technologies to bring digital content into everyday physical spaces. Facilitated by the developers of Hoverlay AR publishing platform and browser technology, each four-week workshop offers introductory opportunities to learn about AR by creating experiences to address real-world problems. The ways in which we share and consume art, music, and stories have changed in light of the pandemic, and Augmented Stories provides opportunities for patrons to create and share their creative work with audiences. The technology enables viewers to walk around an "art gallery" in the park, experience a concert performance from a living room "stage", or “sit with” and learn from historical figures at a kitchen table. AR for Art, Fall 2020 Creating life-like "digital twins" of artwork using augmented reality AR Walks, Winter 2021 Telling stories around cities using augmented reality AR Performances, Spring 2021 Creating virtual music performances using augmented reality/virtual reality AR for Art Workshop AR for Art is designed for those interested in art and design. Participants will create life-like “digital twins” of artwork using augmented reality. They will develop content that aligns with their interest and a final experience, open to the wider community, that showcases their work. This virtual workshop will be offered on Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM over Zoom. AR for Art will be held Oct. 21st, Oct. 28th, Nov. 4th, and Nov. 11th. Participants should expect to attend all four of these sessions. They are also invited to participate in a virtual community presentation on Nov. 18th.

Past selections include: Circe by Madeline Miller, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates, and The Autobiography of Malcom X, as told to Alex Haley. Requirements: An enjoyment of reading and talking about books. The group is casual and informal. Copies of the book are available at the Valente branch, during contactless pick-up hours, or you may request a copy for pick at your preferred location. E-books or audio books are available through Hoopla Registration is required. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants 1 day before the event, and again 1 hour before the event.
