Interested in making your own lantern? Learn the fundamentals of using Google Drawing to design and edit pieces for a laser-cut lantern. You'll also be introduced to our in-house laser cutting machine. Participants who wish may share a completed design file to be made into a lantern in The Hive. Patrons can arrange to collect their finished lantern pieces at Contactless Pickup.
Google Drawing is a free web-based application. Computer proficiency is necessary for this course. Computing devices are available for reservation at Contactless Pickup: Takeout Technology.

Ambassador Nicholas Burns, the Roy and Barbara Goodman Family Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Relations at Harvard and a distinguished US diplomat, will speak at the Cambridge Public Library virtual event on January 19 at 6:30 p.m. Burns will discuss the foreign policy challenges awaiting the Biden/Harris Administration when it is sworn in on January 20, 2021, as part of the Library’s Our Path Forward series that examines issues important to the health of our democracy.
Tensions with Iran, growing military and economic rivalry with China and Russia, and regional conflicts in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East are some of the crises the Biden/Harris Administration will inherit. Managing these challenges will be complicated by a foreign policy landscape characterized by weakened international alliances, a diminished US role in global affairs, and the proliferation of autocracies emboldened to disregard norms accepted by the international community. Join Ambassador Nicholas Burns for a discussion about the foreign policy challenges awaiting the Biden/Harris Administration.
