      Online,

STEAM Academy: Design Studio is a partnership with Innovators for Purpose. The Design Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation studio that deploys fresh youth-inspired solutions to real problems for real clients. Working collaboratively with designers, technologists, makers and other professionals, youth weave the physical and digital worlds together to create immersive experiences with enduring impact. We like to think of it as a teen-powered consultancy analogous to design firm IDEO. Past clients include Cambridge Redevelopment Authority, Cambridge Public Library and MIT. Participants will hone their “creative doing” skills while working on client-based projects. Internships are open to students 14-18 years of age who reside in Cambridge, with a limited number of paid stipend positions available. This is a three-month long program meeting twice a week. • How The Turntables Have Turned! A Conversation About Hip-Hop & The Media

      Online,

RSVP is required for zoom information. Hip-Hop has triumphantly emerged from the underground to take its place in the mainstream of popular culture; the influence of hip hop extends to television, film, advertising, fashion, media, language, and more. In recent years, there has been a shift in tone in how media outlets consume and present hip-hop to their respective audiences. The Library is excited to welcome music journalists Bobby Carter, Bianca Gracie, and Dart Adams as they discuss the media’s influence on the history and development of hip hop culture, including the consistent call for censorship. Bianca is a freelance music/pop culture journalist. Her writing can be found in various entertainment media outlets, including Billboard, Vulture and The Recording Academy. Gracie's work aims to be a platform for Black artists to share their stories. Bobby is a Digital Media Engineer at NPR; his team is responsible for all audio and video on NPR.org. Dart is a music journalist, historian, lecturer, independent A&R, consultant and a correspondent/on camera interviewer for NE Hip Hop from Boston, MA. He's mostly known for his blogs Poisonous Paragraphs, Bastard Swordsman & Producers I Know as well as his former co-operative blog Bloggerhouse. -
