We are now accepting returns of any Minuteman Library Network materials at the O'Connell Branch, generally Tuesdays and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Leave your items in the Book Drop, located near the entrance to the parking lot on Thorndike Street.
It may take up to one week for items to be removed from your card. During the COVID-19 crisis, no overdue fines are being charged on any materials checked out of Cambridge Public Library locations.
You may also return any Minuteman Library Network materials via the Main Library outside book drop (available 24/7). We are also offering limited return hours at other branch locations, subject to scheduling changes. Women make up 50% of your ancestry, yet their lives, experiences, and even complete names are all too often forgotten by written history. Although often overlooked in official records, throughout time women have been the keepers of family and personal history.
When they survive, diaries, letters, account books, family bibles, samplers, organization records, and more can reveal more about a woman’s daily life than any government document.
New England Historical Genealogical Society's Ann Lawthers will discuss how these unique records and manuscripts can be used to piece together a family story and how digging in the archives can hit genealogical gold.

Interested in making your own vinyl stickers? Learn the fundamentals of using Google Drawing to design and edit images for customized stickers. You'll also be introduced to our in-house vinyl cutter machine. Participants who wish may share a completed design file to be made into a sticker in The Hive. Patrons can arrange to collect their finished stickers at Contactless Pickup.
Google Drawings is a free web-based application. Basic computer skills are necessary for this course. Computing devices are available for reservation at Contactless Pickup: Takeout Technology.

STEAM Academy: Design Studio is a partnership with Innovators for Purpose. The Design Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation studio that deploys fresh youth-inspired solutions to real problems for real clients. Working collaboratively with designers, technologists, makers and other professionals, youth weave the physical and digital worlds together to create immersive experiences with enduring impact. We like to think of it as a teen-powered consultancy analogous to design firm IDEO. Past clients include Cambridge Redevelopment Authority, Cambridge Public Library and MIT. Participants will hone their “creative doing” skills while working on client-based projects. Internships are open to students 14-18 years of age who reside in Cambridge, with a limited number of paid stipend positions available. This is a three-month long program meeting twice a week.

Dr. Heitner’s work has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, TIME magazine and Education Week. She has a Ph.D. in Media/Technology & Society from Northwestern University and has taught at DePaul and Northwestern. She is delighted to be raising her own digital native.
