    • Materials Returns (O'Connell)

      O'Connell Branch, 48 Sixth St., Cambridge, MA 02141

      We are now accepting returns of any Minuteman Library Network materials at the O'Connell Branch, generally Tuesdays and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Leave your items in the Book Drop, located near the entrance to the parking lot on Thorndike Street. It may take up to one week for items to be removed from your card. During the COVID-19 crisis, no overdue fines are being charged on any materials checked out of Cambridge Public Library locations. You may also return any Minuteman Library Network materials via the Main Library outside book drop (available 24/7). We are also offering limited return hours at other branch locations, subject to scheduling changes.       Join us for Women's History Month as we uncover the story of Alice North Towne Lincoln - one of Boston's great 19th Century philanthropists who has been forgotten by history. Lincoln's life work was to help the urban poor, reforming tenement housing, closing down Rainsford Island - the little-known Boston Harbor Island that served as an off-shore repository for the city's unwanted - and a number of other causes.     • Turn Your Drawing into 3D Charms

      Interested in making your own charm or token? Learn some of the fundamentals of using Google Drawing and Tinkercad to draw or design a charm or token and transform it into a three-dimensional object. You'll also be introduced to our in-house 3D printers. Participants who wish may share a completed design file to be made into a 3D printed charm or token in The Hive. Patrons can arrange to collect their finished projects at Contactless Pickup. Google Drawing and Tinkercad are free web-based applications. Basic computer skills are necessary for this course.       STEAM Academy: Design Studio is a partnership with Innovators for Purpose. The Design Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation studio that deploys fresh youth-inspired solutions to real problems for real clients. Working collaboratively with designers, technologists, makers and other professionals, youth weave the physical and digital worlds together to create immersive experiences with enduring impact. We like to think of it as a teen-powered consultancy analogous to design firm IDEO. Past clients include Cambridge Redevelopment Authority, Cambridge Public Library and MIT. Participants will hone their “creative doing” skills while working on client-based projects. Internships are open to students 14-18 years of age who reside in Cambridge, with a limited number of paid stipend positions available. This is a three-month long program meeting twice a week.
