      The Cambridge Book Bike Team invites children and their grown-ups to join us for 20-25 minutes of songs, stories and rhymes. This program will be held in Joan Lorentz Park on the lawn outside the Main Library. In the event of rain, we will move indoors. Please call 617-349-4038 for more information. The Cambridge Book Bike is a collaboration among the Agenda for Children Literacy Initiative, the Cambridge Public Library and the Center for Families.

      Are you interested in using The Hive? In this workshop you will learn about our makerspace, how to utilize the resources we offer and how to keep safe in The Hive. You will also create your Hive badge ID using our Glowforge laser cutter and learn how to utilize this piece of equipment to cut and engrave your own creations. Find out what you need to get started as a maker in The Hive here. Completion of Hive Safety Training is the entry point to making, innovating, and collaborating in this space. Makers must also sign The Hive User Agreement and Waivers.

Come to our Zoom Art Show for tweens and teens to see amazing creations and share your own! Register below. Zoom link will be emailed to registrants one hour before the program begins. This program is free and open to the public and is not recorded. If you register but later find you cannot attend, please remember to cancel your registration to make space for others. Funding for Summer Reading has been generously provided by the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Cambridge Public Library and Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

    • Lamp x the CPL Present: A Book Club Walks Into a Bar

      This August, we’re meeting in person in Lamplighter's back taproom to discuss The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix. This campy, supernatural thriller is set in the American South in the ’90s, and tells the story of a women’s book club that must protect its suburban community from a mysterious and handsome stranger who turns out to be a blood-sucking fiend. In other words, we’ve chosen a beach read. Register here. A limited number of copies of the book are available at the Main Library Q&A Desk. The e-book and digitial audiobook are available through Hoopla or the Hoopla app using a Minuteman Network library card. Or, you can stop by Lamplighter OR All She Wrote Books to purchase your own paperback copy.

      You have learned the basics of our Glowforge Pro and are ready to level up! Learn how to properly select materials for your project, optimize artwork and file format, utilize the camera for focusing and scanning, and generally maintain the machine. Completion of this workshop earns you a badge for the Glowforge laser cutter. As a badged maker, you are able to reserve the Glowforge Pro for use on our equipment booking page during designated times. Note: Participation in the separate Zing 101 workshop is required to operate our Epilog Zing laser cutter. You must complete Hive Safety Training & Glowforge 101 before participating in this program.
