    • Intermediate ESOL Class (Central Square)

      Central Square Branch, 45 Pearl St., Cambridge, MA 02139

      Join us for an English for Speakers of Other Languages Class. This class will be taught at an intermediate level. No testing is needed, but registration is required. The is an in-person class. Please register below. Intermediate ESOL Class is free and open to the public. If you register but later find you cannot attend, please remember to cancel your registration to make space for others.       Learn how to use our Sindoh 3D printers and customize a design for your first 3D print in The Hive. Completing Hive Safety & Glowforge 101 is a prerequisite to registering for this workshop. This workshop includes a design tutorial in Tinkercad. Create a Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com prior to arriving. Test drive our Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality glasses, HTC Vive VR headset, and more. You must complete Hive Safety Training & Glowforge 101 before participating in this program.     • Give Feedback On Public Art For Tobin Montessori and Vassal Lane Upper Schools

      Join Cambridge Arts for a virtual meeting on Tuesday, Oct 12, 2021, at 05:30 p.m. to give feedback and ask questions about public art that four finalist are proposing for Cambridge’s Tobin Montessori and Vassal Lane Upper Schools, as part of a reconstruction of the complex at 197 Vassal Lane. The finalists will participate in the meeting. The 20-person Site Committee is expected to announce the winning project in November.

      October 12th selection: Stendhal, The Red and the Black Reading Interests: We concentrate on Great Books in the following areas: a long novel over the summer, two sections of poetry and short stories, a book of the Bible, a Shakespeare play, an ancient and modern drama, a work of science, a smaller work of fiction, an even smaller work of fiction, and a rotating mix of politics, philosophy, and religion. Authors read in the past five years include Dickens, Keats and Yeats, O'Connor and Munro, Ecclesiastes, Sophocles and August Wilson, Darwin, Austen, Duras, The Federalist Papers, and Arendt. How to get the print book: Copies of the print book are set aside at the Main Library. Visit the Main Library at 449 Broadway during current service hours and a staff member can help you check out a copy. How to register: Registration is required.
