    • Intermediate ESOL Class (Central Square)

      Central Square Branch, 45 Pearl St., Cambridge, MA 02139

      Join us for an English for Speakers of Other Languages Class. This class will be taught at an intermediate level. No testing is needed, but registration is required. The is an in-person class. Please register below. Intermediate ESOL Class is free and open to the public. If you register but later find you cannot attend, please remember to cancel your registration to make space for others.       We invite children and their grown-ups to join us for 20-25 minutes of songs, stories and rhymes. This program will be held in the Reading Garden on Berkshire Street. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be canceled. Please call 617-349-4015 for more information.

      Basic Computer Classes for Beginners Do you want to learn typing and mouse skills? Do you want to learn how to set up an email account? Do you want to learn how to do online job search? Do you want to learn word processing, online browsing, maps? Learn all this, and more in our free Tech Goes Home classes. When: Tuesdays, 2 pm – 4 pm, October 12 - November 30, 2021 Meeting dates: October 12, 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, December 7, 14 Program Commitment: 15 hours. Participants must register and commit to attending all sessions. Registration is now closed. After completion of the program, participants have the option of receiving a free Chromebook and internet access for one year.

    • Financial Literacy 101: Budgeting and Saving (Virtual)

      Managing one’s own money in today’s world is tricky. Learning to budget and save is a critical first step. Learning to budget effectively can help reduce stress and prove critical in helping us reach our lifetime financial goals. In this session, we explore forming a budget and comparing different ways to save money for the future. This workshop is part of four workshops in collaboration with Cambridge Savings Bank. By learning and applying the concepts from these interactive workshops, participants will better understand and practice managing their money wisely, begin to build savings, avoid unmanageable debt, improve their credit and shield themselves from fraud. Participants are welcome to register for just one or all of the workshops. Workshop 1: Budgeting and Saving (Tuesday, November 2) Workshop 2: Managing a Checking Account (Tuesday, November 16) Workshop 3: Credit (Tuesday, November 30) Workshop 4: Fraud (Tuesday, December 14) This program is a virtual event and takes place on Zoom.     • ASL Basics for Beginners (Part 2) (Virtual)

      SIGNING Basics, LLC is returning to the Cambridge Public Library via Virtual Zoom classes! A live sign language instructor will teach you additional signing phrases that will complement the phrases and signs learned in ASL Basics for Beginners Part 1. You will learn to sign phrases such as: Hello, how are you? Hello, What’s up? And responses – I fine, so so okay, tired or sick… Times of the day; Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Today, Tomorrow, Yesterday… Places that you GO TO – Vacation, school, college, weddings, parties, gym… Ask when and what a person will do – Tomorrow, you do what? And responses – OH, I SEE, Nice, Sorry… Learn how to form additional ASL Sentences that brings together the signs you learn during the course. This course is taught in 4 - 45 Minutes Virtual Zoom sessions with a live ASL Instructor, and class handouts are included. Additionally, you will have supporting videos of instructors signing the vocabulary you learn during class. A recurring Zoom link shall be sent to you on the first day of class.
