      This workshop will walk you through building your own website with SquareSpace. You’ll learn step-by-step how to pick out a template, build out your pages, and add text, photos and videos to your site.

      Basic Computer Classes for Beginners Do you want to learn typing and mouse skills? Do you want to learn how to set up an email account? Do you want to learn how to do online job search? Do you want to learn word processing, online browsing, maps? Learn all this, and more in our free Tech Goes Home classes. When: Tuesdays, 2 pm – 4 pm, October 12 - November 30, 2021 Meeting dates: October 12, 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, December 7, 14 Program Commitment: 15 hours. Participants must register and commit to attending all sessions. Registration is now closed. After completion of the program, participants have the option of receiving a free Chromebook and internet access for one year.

Mondays and Thursdays, Sept. 27 - Dec 23 (Learning Lab) Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences.     • Glowforge 101: Creative Laser Cutting, Pt.1 (Main)

      Learn how to cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of materials using the Glowforge Pro laser cutter in this 2 part series. This series of workshops replaces the previous Glowforge 101 and Glowforge 201 offerings. In part 1 of this course, you will utilize the camera for focusing and scanning your own custom images, properly select materials for your project, and fabricate your first design. In part 2, you will create digital artwork for the Glowforge, and learn file formatting for production. Note: This is a badging course for laser cutting. Only those who sign up for part 1 of this series can participate in part 2 the following week. You will be badged at the end of the part 2 workshop, and are able to reserve the Glowforge Pro for use during designated times.       December 7th selection: The Book of Jeremiah Reading Interests: We concentrate on Great Books in the following areas: a long novel over the summer, two sections of poetry and short stories, a book of the Bible, a Shakespeare play, an ancient and modern drama, a work of science, a smaller work of fiction, an even smaller work of fiction, and a rotating mix of politics, philosophy, and religion. Authors read in the past five years include Dickens, Keats and Yeats, O'Connor and Munro, Ecclesiastes, Sophocles and August Wilson, Darwin, Austen, Duras, The Federalist Papers, and Arendt. How to get the print book: Copies of the book are set aside at the Main Library. Visit the Main Library at 449 Broadway during current service hours and a staff member can help you get a copy.
