      Updated 1/4/22: Due to today's cold temperatures, Outdoor Story Time at Collins Branch has been cancelled. We invite children and their grown-ups to join us for 20-25 minutes of songs, stories and rhymes. This program will be held in the backyard of the Collins Branch Library.       A captivating novel about an immigrant Vietnamese family who settles in New Orleans and struggles to remain connected to one another as their lives are inextricably reshaped. This stunning debut is “vast in scale and ambition, while luscious and inviting … in its intimacy” (The New York Times Book Review). Join us for a reading and discussion of Eric Nguyen’s debut novel Things We Lost to the Water, a heart-rending story about a family of Vietnamese refugees who settle in New Orleans and struggle to remain connected to one another as their lives are reshaped. Shortlisted for the Crook's Corner Book Prize, an Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Millions, We Are Bookish, and Nerd Daily "Most Anticipated Book of the Year." Named one of the “Fifteen Books to Watch for” by The New York Times. Nguyen earned an MFA in Creative Writing from McNeese State University in Louisiana and has been awarded fellowships from Lambda Literary, Voices of Our Nation Arts (VONA), and the Tin House Writers Workshop.
