      Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology, and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences.       This event has been postponed due to inclement weather. A new date will be announced soon. Join us in the Collins Branch courtyard for an afternoon of gentle yoga with Cambridge-based Carol Faulkner. Carol will guide us through a 45-minute period of movement, stretching, and reflection. We will move our bodies slowly through introductory yoga poses. All abilities are welcome. Please bring your own mat, towel, blanket, or piece of clothing to practice on. Don't have something to use?       Would you like to tune your bike up for spring riding? This hands-on workshop, held in collaboration with Cambridge’s Community Development Department, will cover the ABCs (Air, Brakes, Chain) of bicycle maintenance, with time at the end for any specific questions you may have about basic repairs. Bring your own bike or work on one provided by the instructor. This program will take place at the Valente Branch (826 Cambridge Street). Registration is required.       The online Career Skills workshop series, presented by employment specialist Gary Gekow, will cover the fundamentals of job search strategies, from writing a strong résumé to preparing for a virtual job interview.       May 3 selection: Alexander Pushkin, selected stories Reading Interests: We concentrate on Great Books in the following areas: a long novel over the summer, two sections of poetry and short stories, a book of the Bible, a Shakespeare play, an ancient and modern drama, a work of science, a smaller work of fiction, an even smaller work of fiction, and a rotating mix of politics, philosophy, and religion. Authors read in the past five years include Dickens, Keats and Yeats, O'Connor and Munro, Ecclesiastes, Sophocles and August Wilson, Darwin, Austen, Duras, The Federalist Papers, and Arendt.     • Glowforge 101: Creative Laser Cutting, Pt.1 (Main)

      Learn how to cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of materials using the Glowforge Pro laser cutter in this 2-day workshop. This series of workshops replaces the previous Glowforge 101 and Glowforge 201 offerings. In part 1 of this course, you will utilize the camera for focusing and scanning your own custom images, properly select materials for your project, and fabricate your first design. In part 2, you will create digital artwork for the Glowforge, and learn file formatting for production. Note: This is a badging course for laser cutting. Signing up for part 1 of this series registers you to participate in part 2 the next day. You will be badged at the end of the part 2 workshop, and are able to reserve the Glowforge Pro for use during designated times.
