    • STEAM Academy: Innovators for Purpose Summer Studio

      Main Library, Community Room, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. July 5 - August 5, weekdays from 9:15am-3:30pm at the Main Library Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences. Made possible by generous support from the Eric and Jane Nord Family Fund and Verizon.

    • Outdoor Baby Lapsit (Main)

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      Just for you and the baby! Enjoy time together with other parents, caregivers and babies to learn, play, and develop language and motor skills. Come prepared to sit outside on the ground one-on-one with your baby in your lap. This program will be held in Joan Lorentz Park on the lawn outside the Main Library. In the event of inclement weather, this program will move indoors, where seating is limited. Please call 617-349-4038 for more information.

    • Fresh Pond Nature Walk (Collins)

      Collins Branch, 64 Aberdeen Ave., Cambridge, MA 02138

      Join us on the second Monday of each month for a 45-minute relaxing walk of Fresh Pond with Park Ranger Tim Puopolo! No two weeks are the same in nature, and Tim will share his insights about what's growing, changing, and blooming in the neighborhood. The walk will meet in the courtyard of the Collins Branch (64 Aberdeen Ave.) and leave together towards the pond at 10:15am.       Put on your dancing shoes and head over for a morning of singing and dancing! For children of all ages and their grown-ups. This program will be held outside of the O'Neill Branch Library.     • Creative Aging: Poetry Writing (Main)

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      In this Creative Aging Poetry class, participants will have the opportunity to put their poetry muscle to work in a safe, creative, and supportive community. Participants will read, write, and share poetry throughout the 8 weeks. The class will focus on four elements of a poem: imagination, music, story and structure. By using wordplay exercises, prompts, and reading a range of poetry styles, students will hone their poetry skills and begin to see the world through the eyes of a poet. Come experience what Robert Pinsky meant when he said, “Poetry is a basic human pleasure.” The 8-week course will occur every Monday, 2pm-4pm, starting July 11 through September 12 (no class 7/25 or 9/5). This will be an in-person program at the Main Library. Space is limited to 20 participants. Due to the popularity and to gain the most out of this program, we expect all participants to commit to all sessions in this 8-week course.     • Summer Reading: Playful Engineers Outdoor Traveling MakerSpace (Valente)

      Valente Branch, 826 Cambridge St., Cambridge, MA 02141

      In a hands-on, STEM focused workshop, participants design, build, test, and play with Rube Goldberg Machines, paper constructions, domino towers and more! Recommended for children ages 5 and up and their caregivers. This program will take place outdoors at the Valente Branch Library. In the event of rain, this program will be held on Monday, July 18. Funding for Summer Reading has been generously provided by the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Cambridge Public Library, the East Cambridge Savings Bank and Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

      In this workshop, you will learn about our makerspace, how to use our resources, and how to keep safe in The Hive. Registration is required. The Zoom link will be sent out an hour before the workshop starts. Before taking in-person workshops in The Hive, all makers must bring signed copies of The Hive User Agreement and Waivers.

    • Cambridge Savings Bank's Financial Education Program for Cambridge Small Business

      Citywide

      Are you a Cambridge entrepreneur or small business owner looking for training on best practices for marketing, business cash flow, business credit, and financing options? Cambridge Savings Bank (CSB) is offering a 4-week Financial Education Program this summer for Cambridge entrepreneurs. After the training sessions, graduates will also get matched up with a business banker. This program is free to all.

    • Mt. Auburn/Sparks Traffic Signal Informational Meeting

      The City of Cambridge plans to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Mt. Auburn Street and Sparks Street to improve pedestrian safety and reduce conflicts between cars and people crossing at crosswalks.

    • Summer ESOL Class (Valente)
