  STEAM Academy: Innovators for Purpose Summer Studio

  Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. July 5 - August 5, weekdays from 9:15am-3:30pm at the Main Library Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences.   Outdoor Baby Lapsit (Main)

  Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

  Just for you and the baby! Enjoy time together with other parents, caregivers and babies to learn, play, and develop language and motor skills. Come prepared to sit outside on the ground one-on-one with your baby in your lap. This program will be held in Joan Lorentz Park on the lawn outside the Main Library.   Outdoor Sing-Along (O'Neill)

  Put on your dancing shoes and head over for a morning of singing and dancing! For children of all ages and their grown-ups. This program will be held outside of the O'Neill Branch Library.   Glowforge 101: Creative Laser Cutting, Pt.1 (Main)

  Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

  Learn how to cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of materials using the Glowforge Pro laser cutter in this 2-day workshop. This series of workshops replaces the previous Glowforge 101 and Glowforge 201 offerings. In part 1 of this course, you will utilize the camera for focusing and scanning your own custom images, properly select materials for your project, and fabricate your first design. In part 2, you will create digital artwork for the Glowforge, and learn file formatting for production. Note: This is a badging course for laser cutting. Signing up for part 1 of this series registers you to participate in part 2 the next day. You will be badged at the end of the part 2 workshop, and are able to reserve the Glowforge Pro for use during designated times.   Hosting the sessions will be Cambridge native and saxophonist Bobby Tynes and his amazing all star rhythm section featuring Frank Wilcon's on keys, Sergio Bellotti on drums and Wes Wirth on the bass.

  Patio Project: Light & Shadow

  Valente Branch, 826 Cambridge St., Cambridge, MA 02141

  Due to rain, the sun printing activity will be available to take home to do on a sunny day. Patrons are still invited to contribute to the Valente shadow box inside the library. Join us at the Valente Branch Library (826 Cambridge St.) for activites for all ages! We will harness the power of the sun to create art by sunprinting and play with shadows by making shadow boxes.
