    • Trip to Rockport

      A trip for Older Adults 60 years +. Enjoy a beautiful day to Rockport, MA. Walk around Bearskin Neck. Walk along the beach. Purchase some salt water taffy and fudge!

    • Design Squad Maker: Design Thinking Workshop

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      Children ages 8-11 and their families are invited to join us for a hands-on design thinking and engineering workshop. Together, you'll come up with problems that you want to solve, brainstorm solutions, build prototypes, and test them to see how they work. Experience the same steps that engineers use to solve real-world problems. Event starts in the Children's Room at 10 a.m. Staff will assist with library card registration. Children need not provide proof of ID, adults are required to show photo ID and proof of Massachusetts residency to make a library card. Registration is not required but encouraged.

      Use your B-R-A-I-N (7 points) for a game of Scrabble at the Collins Branch! Bring a friend or get to know new neighbors. Boards will be provided. Players of all levels are welcome.     • Sewing 101 (Main)

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      In this 90-minute class, you’ll learn the basics of sewing machine operation and safety. This session will cover machine setup, basic functions, threading the machine, reloading the bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and recognizing when stitch tension has gone awry. We’ll also cover some safety best practices when operating a sewing machine. As we learn together, we’ll work on a simple sewing project—a drawstring bag—which most students will be able to complete by the end of the class. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.
