    • Love in Metal: Abraham Megerdichian Machined Metal Miniatures

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      Join us for the first major art exhibit in Cambridge of Abraham Megerdichian's metal miniatures on display at the Main Library from September 19th to October 14th. Lifelong local machinist, Abraham machined from solid scrap metal his interpretations of everyday objects, and gave them away as gifts to family and friends. After Abraham died in 1983 his pieces were put away, where many of them lay until 2013. Since then Abraham’s son, Robert, has had pieces from the collection exhibited at nearly 20 venues in New England and beyond. Also on exhibit are professional photographer Scott Sutherland’s photographs of the artwork. The artwork is on display throughout the Main Library - in the lobby, on the second floor, in the Cambridge Room, and in the Children's Room. Join us for a curator talk by Robert on October 12 at 6:30 pm in the Cambridge Room.

      Updated 9/27/22: Due to the damp conditions in the yard, today's story time will take place indoors. We invite children and their grown-ups to join us for 20-25 minutes of songs, stories and rhymes. This program will be held in the backyard of the Collins Branch Library.       Put on your dancing shoes and head over for a morning of singing and dancing! For children of all ages and their grown-ups. This program will be held in the reading garden on the Berkshire Street side of the Valente Branch. In the event of inclement weather, this program will move indoors, where seating is limited.       Music. Movement. Story. Join your librarians outside for 20 minutes of fun! Children of all ages and their grown-ups. This program will be held in Joan Lorentz Park on the lawn outside the Main Library. In the event of inclement weather, this program will be canceled. Please call 617-349-4038 for more information.

      During this reservation period, anyone who has completed Hive training and is badged to use equipment or studio(s) can reserve Hive equipment or studio spaces. Staff will assist participants as they are able.

    • Graphics Are Great! Book Group (O'Connell/Virtual)

      O'Connell Branch, 48 Sixth St., Cambridge, MA 02141

      Our monthly "Graphics Are Great!" book group is for kids aged 8-12. Check out a copy of the book beforehand, or download it from the Libby app. Our September book is Invisible Emmie. This book group will meet virtually and in person at the O'Connell Branch. Please register below if you would like to attend virtually. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants one hour before the event. Need a laptop or hotspot to participate? Call the O'Connell Branch at 617-349-4019.       We invite children and their caregivers for 20-25 minutes of stories and songs. Recommended for children ages 3-5. This program can accommodate 45 people. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis on the day of the program. The entire party must be present to receive a ticket. This program starts promptly. Unclaimed seats will be offered to someone waiting. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please call 617-349-4038 for more information.
