      Join us for an exhibit of Cambridge Black Trailblazers, curated by the Cambridge Black History Project, on display at the Main Library from January 26 to February 28. Fifteen extraordinary Black Cantabrigians, whose lives and accomplishments have often been overlooked, will be featured in this exhibition: Roy Allen, Actor, TV Stage Manager, Director, Producer, Creator Joyce London Alexander, Chief US Magistrate Judge Barbara Ward Armstrong, Artist, Musician, Creator Olive Benson, Innovative Hair-Care Entrepreneur Calvin Burnett, Daring Artist and Gifted Teacher Dr. June Christmas, Pioneer in Public Health Dr. Cheryl Townsend Gilkes, Faith and Action Charles LeRoy Gittens, Secret Service Agent Johnny Hodges, Jazz Saxophonist Extraordinaire Kittie Towle Knox, Cycling Pioneer and Champion Racer Gertrude Wright Morgan, Teacher and a Force for Change Henry F. Owens, Entrepreneur Elizabeth Miller Rawlins, Teacher, Educational Leader, and Advocate for Educational Equity and Opportunity Gus Solomons Jr., Contemporary Dancer, Innovator, Mentor Leon West, Chef The exhibit is on display in the lobby, on the second floor, and on the gallery wall on L2.       Innovators for Purpose (iFp) Studio is a teen-powered design and innovation program where teens channel their energy and creative vision to imagine and build a better world. Blending art, design, science, technology, and storytelling within a social justice framework, teens engage in real-world client-sponsored projects. Innovators for Purpose (iFp) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that inspires high-potential, diverse young people to discover their passions, develop innovative mindsets and cultivate marketable skills to solve problems they care most about. Summer Studio teens are funded in part through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. The Cambridge Public Library STEAM Academy is part of Cambridge STEAM Initiative's efforts to enhance and expand students’ access to quality STEAM learning experiences.     • Film Screening: Woman in the Mirror

      Join us for a film screening of Woman in the Mirror, directed by Tatyana Bronstein. Woman in the Mirror is a story of a strong woman, a ballerina, who defected from the Soviet Union because of antisemitism and lack of artistic and personal freedom. This is the story of her transition to the American ballet stage that led, after a 25-year career, to a new role as a teacher, and to new challenges as she struggles to adapt to the educational styles of American ballet. The documentary also takes an insightful look into the lives of the students as they struggle with the challenges of intense ballet training, including physical and emotional stress, anxiety, clinical depression, and family issues. Registration is required.
