Join us in celebrating the opening of "INTERWOVEN: A Multigenerational Showcase of Textile and Fiber Arts." This exhibit, featuring the work of three Indian-American women—Zahira Paul, Zebun Rangwala, and Aparna Paul—primarily in the form of quilts, bags, clothes, books, and other sewn goods, will open on July 13, 2024 with a kickoff event featuring an artist talk, fiber arts workshops, and performance poetry. At 12:30 p.m., Zahira Paul will deliver an artist talk in the Lecture Hall, in conversation with Aparna Paul, followed by a short performance of Aparna Paul's poetry. Two workshops, facilitated by Zahira Paul, will immediately follow the artist's talk. The first workshop, at 1:30 p.m., will teach participants how to make a four patch quilt block. Supplies for this workshop—including needles, thread, pins and fabric—will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. The second workshop, at 2:30 p.m., will cover visible mending; participants are invited to bring their own pieces in need of mending that they want to learn how to repair. Sewing kits with needles, thread, and pins will be available for attendees to take home. Note: the workshops will be capped at forty people each.
