    • Expressive Art for Older Adults: Beading Workshop (Main)

      Learn the basics of beaded jewelry making and the difference between semi-precious stones and precious stones. Participants will keep all pieces they make.     • Google Drive Basics (Main)

      Learn how to create folders and organize your files on Google Drive! Google Drive is your online file storage that is connected to your Google account. You will learn how to use Google Drive to manage your files and images. A Google (Gmail) account is required for the class. Please remember your email address and password, you will need them to sign in and practice during the class. Laptops will be provided for the class.       Put on your dancing shoes and head over for a morning of singing and dancing! We'll sing and move together, and maybe share a story or two. For children of all ages and their grown-ups. Due to Early Voting, this program will be moved to the Children's Area of the Valente Branch. This program will take place in the Community Room at the Valente Branch Library.     • Toddler Story Time (Main)

      We invite children and their caregivers for 20-25 minutes of stories and songs. Designed for children 18 months to 3 years and their caregivers. This program can accommodate 45 people. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis on the day of the program. The entire party must be present to receive a ticket. This program starts promptly. Unclaimed seats will be offered to someone waiting. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please call 617-349-4038 for more information.     • Sewing 101 (O'Neill)

      O'Neill Branch, 70 Rindge Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140

      Learn to use a sewing machine at the O'Neill Branch! This class is designed for ages 7 through adult. Ages 7-11 must participate with an adult. Ages 12 and up may participate alone or with a partner. In this class, you will learn the basics of sewing machine operation and safety. We will cover machine setup, basic functions, threading the machine, reloading the bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and recognizing when problems arise. As we learn together, we’ll work on one or two simple sewing projects. Participants may use this series to become badged for the sewing machines at the Hive. If you wish to do this, please complete the Hive Safety Training before the end of the workshop series.

      This week's selection: Alice Munro, selected stories Reading Interests: We concentrate on Great Books in the following areas: a long novel over the summer, two sections of poetry and short stories, a book of the Bible, a Shakespeare play, an ancient and modern drama, a work of science, a smaller work of fiction, an even smaller work of fiction, and a rotating mix of politics, philosophy, and religion. Authors read in the past five years include Dickens, Keats and Yeats, O'Connor and Munro, Ecclesiastes, Sophocles and August Wilson, Darwin, Austen, Duras, The Federalist Papers, and Arendt. How to get the print book: Copies of the reading are set aside at the Main Library. Visit the Main Library at 449 Broadway during current service hours and a staff member can help you get a copy.
