    • Vinyl Cutting 101 (Main)

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      Would you like to make your own vinyl signs, stickers, or images to transfer to T-shirts and other textiles? In this workshop, you can learn how to use our Roland Camm-1 GS-24 vinyl cutter. You can then design a sticker and cut it with our vinyl cutter! Registration is required. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.

      During this reservation period, anyone who has completed Hive training and is certified to use equipment or studio(s) can reserve Hive equipment or studio spaces. Staff will assist participants as they are able.

      Join José Mateo Ballet Nutcracker cast members for a fun story time reading of The Nutcracker coupled with live ballet dancing. Learn some ballet moves and meet the dancers as well! All ages.

      Come to the Library to create something special! Use your own supplies or try out our equipment! You can use our 1-inch button maker, 2.5 inch button maker, 3-D Doodle pens, or Janome sewing machines. The Library will provide basic supplies. This drop-in program is for people who feel comfortable using these machines on their own. The Library will not provide instruction. Anyone wishing to use the sewing machines must have completed a Sewing 101 training through the Library. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

    • CPL Arts Collective: Kintsugi Boston (Main)

      Back by popular demand! Join us for a hands-on, beginner-friendly kintsugi workshop led by local artist Tad Murao! Kintsugi embraces the philosophy of wabi-sabi, highlighting "imperfections" with metal powders and transforming your broken piece into a unique piece of art. In this comprehensive 2-hour workshop, you will: Explore the history and philosophy of kintsugi Learn basic modern kintsugi repair techniques Repair a broken ceramic piece with step-by-step guidance Due to curing time, we'll be using a fast-drying epoxy, allowing you to take your creation home at the end. We advise against using repaired pieces with food. Please bring: One broken ceramic piece (No more than 4 pieces, repairable within 10 inches. Please do not bring family heirlooms or sentimental pieces) Container large enough to hold the repaired piece for safe transport Please note that pieces not meeting these requirements may not be finished during the workshop. If you are unsure about whether your piece is suitable for the workshop, please email us with a description and photo of the piece you wish to fix at kintsugi.boston@gmail.com Open to ages 18+.
