  Sewing 101 (Main)

  Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

  In this 90-minute workshop, you’ll learn the basics of sewing machine operation and safety. This session will cover machine setup, basic functions, threading the machine, reloading the bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and recognizing when stitch tension has gone awry. We’ll also cover some safety best practices when operating a sewing machine. As we learn together, we’ll work on a simple sewing project—a drawstring bag—which most students will be able to complete by the end of the class. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.

  Vinyl Cutting 101 (Main)

  Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

  Would you like to make your own vinyl signs, stickers, or images to transfer to T-shirts and other textiles? In this workshop, you can learn how to use our Roland Camm-1 GS-24 vinyl cutter. You can then design a sticker and cut it with our vinyl cutter! Registration is required. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.

  Winter Art Tour: Cambridge Public Library Main Branch

  Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

  Join Cambridge Arts and the Cambridge Public Library for a guided tour of the Main Library, including Sidewalk Poetry on the staircase, Filament/Firmament by Ellen Driscoll, and the historic murals in the reading room. Weather permitting, the tour will also include outdoor art, such as The Librarian Speaks by Liam Gillick. We will meet in the Rossi Room in the Main Branch of the Cambridge Public Library.

  Chess Hour (O'Neill)

  O'Neill Branch, 70 Rindge Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140

  Join us for a game of chess at the O'Neill Branch Library! Players of all skill levels and all ages are welcome to participate. Chess sets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. This is a space for individuals to play and test their skills against other members of the community. This is not an instructional class.   Learn how to use our Epilog Zing—an industry-standard laser-cutting machine. Complete this workshop to earn a badge for the Zing laser cutter. With a badge, you can reserve the Epilog Zing to use on our equipment booking page at designated times. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this program.
