While serious crime in Cambridge has risen 4% when compared with the first 8 months of 2011, when measured against the 5-year weighted average for this time frame, a slight 1% drop (33 fewer crimes counted) has been recorded. The majority of the increase from 2011 to 2012 can be attributed to the overall increase in larceny (+9%), with 133 more thefts reported when compared with the first 240 days of 2011.
A detailed analysis of all statistics indicates that there were 101 additional property crimes recorded in the first 8 months of 2012, to register a 5% incline when placed against the 2011 statistics.
