While serious crime in Cambridge increased slightly by 1% when compared with the first 10 months of 2011, when measured against the 5-year weighted average for this time frame, a 4% decline (126 fewer crimes than the average) has been recorded. The majority of the increase from 2011 to 2012 can be attributed to the overall increase in larceny (+6%), with 114 more thefts reported when compared with the same time period of 2011.
A detailed analysis of all statistics indicates that there were 51 additional property crimes recorded in the first 10 months of 2012, which translates to a 2% increase when measured against the 2011 statistics. Violent crime has fallen 4% between January 1st and October 29th of 2012 when compared with 2011.
