Cambridge Police Seeking to Identify Suspect Wanted After Nearly 20 Cars Broken Into

The Cambridge Police wants to make East Cambridge residents aware of a series of car break-ins that were reported earlier this morning at a condominium complex on the Monsignor O’Brien Highway between the Lechmere MBTA Station and Twin City Plaza. Nearly 20 vehicles were broken into after a suspect gained entry by smashing windows on each vehicle. The preliminary investigation indicates that cash, credit cards, sunglasses and car equipment were among the initial items confirmed as being stolen from victims.

The suspect was believed to have gained access to a lower level garage of the condominium complex. He is believed to be a white male, who was wearing shorts, a long-sleeve shirt and a scarf or t-shirt covering his face (see attached surveillance photo). The break-ins were believed to occur after 11:30 p.m. and before 7:30 a.m.

While the Cambridge Police actively investigate these incidents and work closely with property management, Officers are encouraging motorists to take the following precautions to protect themselves, their vehicles, and their belongings from theft:

  • NEVER LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR.
  • Make sure all of your car doors are locked and windows are rolled up when leaving your vehicle, including when parked in a residential driveway or parking garage.
  • If you must leave packages or valuables in your car, place them in the trunk or under a blanket to conceal them so that they are not exposed.
  • Report thefts as soon as possible to the police and always call 9-1-1 if you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
