The Cambridge Police Department is currently investigating two separate shooting incidents that occurred early this evening.

The first shooting incident occurred in close proximity to the main stage of the Cambridge Carnival in the area of Main Street and Albany Street at approximately 4:44 p.m. Two people sustained what are believed to be non-life threatening, lower body injuries. Officers quickly convened to the area of the shooting and located a person of interest, as well as a firearm. As a result of the investigation, Michael Coleman, 23, Dorchester, was taken into custody and will face charges. The firearm was also recovered. As a result of the shooting, the remainder of the Cambridge Carnival was shut down.

At approximately 5:19 p.m., a separate shooting incident took place in the area of River Street and William Street/Cottage Street. Multiple shots were detected by the ShotSpotter System and reported by nearby residents. There are no known injuries at this stage. At least one home was struck as a result of the shootings. One firearm and ballistic evidence has been recovered. Officers are actively investigating the area for any possible suspect information and obtaining further evidence.
