Early Morning Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash Being Investigated


Officers from the Cambridge Police, Harvard University Police and State Police along with Cambridge Fire and Pro EMS responded to the scene of a single vehicle motor vehicle crash that occurred just before 4 a.m. in the area of 1270 Massachusetts Avenue earlier this morning. The driver of the vehicle crashed through a fence and into a tree. The male driver and the male passenger were transported to local hospitals, where the driver was later pronounced dead. The passenger sustained serious injuries.

Traffic was impacted in the immediate area as Mass Ave was closed at Bow Street coming into Harvard Square. 

This is an open and active investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Cambridge Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

No identifying information on the driver will be released pending notification of next of kin. However, both were males in their 20s and 30s.
