A Letter of Good Conduct issued by the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) establishes that you have a clean criminal record in the City of Cambridge. A Letter of Good Conduct is sometimes required when applying for a visa or green card, adopting a child or finding a job. A  Letter of Good Conduct may also be helpful if you have been the victim of mistaken identity or identity theft.

  • Letters of Good Conduct are provided to Cambridge residents as a courtesy.

  • A Letter of Good Conduct is a document that verifies that a check of the files under the control of the Cambridge Police Department was completed and that no criminal record of the applicant was on file.

  • The requested Letter of Good Conduct must be picked up in person at the Cambridge Police Department headquarters, located at 125 Sixth St., Cambridge, MA 02142. Bring valid photo ID.

  • A Letter of Good Conduct will not be provided if the files of the Cambridge Police Department reveal that applicant has a criminal record with the Cambridge Police.

  • The Cambridge Police Department cannot provide a copy of applicant’s Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). The Massachusetts Criminal History Systems Board is the agency in control of CORI records. To request copy of your CORI records see: https://www.mass.gov/criminal-record-check-services
