QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

How do I checkout a Chromebook?

See these step-by-step instructions on how to checkout a chromebook or other device.

What comes with the Chromebook?

Each Chromebook comes with a carrying bag, charger, mouse and a printout with basic instructions.

Do I need an Internet connection to use a Chromebook?

Yes, WiFi is required for the Chromebook to be useful.

You may checkout a mobile hotspot (if available) with a chromebook for internet access.

Be aware that comcast xfinity wifi is free during the crisis (no comcast account or login required) and signal is very good outside the Main library and many other locations in Cambridge. This can provide  an alternate way to get online.

Additionally, here is a list of buildings and parks in Cambridge with free Cambridge Public Internet. Note access to many of these buildings is currently restricted. Internet may be available outside of buildings.

Do I need a google account to use a Chromebook?

No, you can use the chromebook in "guest mode." This allows basic web browsing.

But you can also log in using your google account for advanced features such as apps.
