Main Building Ground Floor

Dear Patrons,

The Cambridge Public Library wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday week!

Thanksgiving Closure

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, all Cambridge Public Library locations will close contactless holds pickup and phone service at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25. All locations will remain closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27.

The Main Library outside book drop will be open for returns. Library returns will not be accepted at branch libraries during the holiday.

Contactless Holds Pickup service will resume at the Main Library on Saturday, November 28 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Interior Improvements to Central Square Branch: No Services Nov. 26 Through Dec. 20

Central Square Branch is getting a makeover! We’re excited to offer a refreshed branch for the neighborhood when we’re able to safely reopen to the public. New furniture will be installed in the Ground Floor, Children’s Room, Literacy Center and Lewis Room.

Library services will not be available at the Central Square Branch from Thursday, November 26 through Sunday, December 20:

  • No Contactless Holds Pickup. All holds ready for pickup at the branch, and holds in transit to the branch, will be made available when service resumes. Closed days will not count against your time to pick up your items.
  • No library returns accepted. Keep your borrowed items until the branch is accepting returns again or return them at another Cambridge Public Library location. No overdue fines will be charged.
  • No phone service. Please call the Main Library at 617-349-4040 for phone service.

Due to coronavirus, the building will continue to be closed to the public when contactless holds pickup, phone service and materials return resume on Monday, December 21.

The last day to pick up holds at Central Square Branch before this project will be Wednesday, November 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Community Yoga Series

Join us Sunday, November 22, at 10 a.m. for virtual community yoga in partnership with Cultural Fabric. Yoga can help us discover greater ease, balance, and resilience within. Come experience it for yourself! Registration is required.

Join us for Story Time

We invite children and their grownups to join us from home for 20-25 minutes of engaging stories. Plan to join in, sing along, and move around! Caregivers are asked to participate in the program with their children.

STEAM Story Times include hands-on activities to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and math; please gather your activity materials before the event.

We are excited to offer these Story Time programs this week:

Registration is required for each event. Please cancel your registration if you cannot attend.

Beginners American Sign Language Classes

Join SIGNING Basics for a virtual Beginners American Sign Language (ASL) class on Tuesday, November 24 at 6 p.m. Participants will learn a variety of signs and participate in engaging activities and games to help reinforce and retain what they have learned. An excellent program for beginners and intermediate learners, but individuals with advanced skills will have fun too! Additional classes will be offered in December. Registration is required.

Becoming Odyssa: Adventures on the Appalachian Trail

On Monday, November 30 at 6 p.m., join author of Becoming Odyssa: Adventures on the Appalachian Trail, Jennifer Pharr Davis for this virtual event. After graduating from college, Jennifer hikes the Appalachian Trail, a 2,175-mile footpath that stretches from Georgia to Maine. The next four months are the most physically and emotionally challenging of her life. And when tragedy strikes, she learns that she can depend on other people to help her in times of need. Registration is required.
