It’s so lovely to once again be kicking off our annual Summer Reading program!

Summer Reading Is for Everyone!

Summer reading is free, fun, and for everyone. Kids, teens and adults, too, join us all summer long for book adventures, free programs, and fun activities from June 28 through August 27. Registration is now open!

To participate:

Step 2. Check your email for registration confirmation and instructions to receive your free Summer Reading tote bag while supplies last.

Step 3. On June 28, start enjoying Book Adventures, free programs, and fun activities for all ages.

And join us for our kickoff Summer Reading virtual event, Summer Reads for Everyone, on June 30 at 3 p.m.! Our children's, teen, and adult librarians will recommend some of their most highly anticipated books this summer season. Pride Month 2021: Writer’s Bone Virtual Podcast Recording

On Monday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m., join the Writer's Bone podcast host Daniel Ford and an all-star panel of LGBTQ+ authors for a virtual Writer’s Bone podcast recording celebrating Pride Month 2021! The episode will feature the authors Kelly J. Ford, Robyn Gigl, Eddy Boudel Tan, and David Valdes, as well as the host and author Daniel Ford. Registration is required.

Virtual ESOL Classes

Virtual English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Introductory ESOL takes place at 11 a.m., beginner ESOL at 1 p.m., and intermediate ESOL at 3 p.m. Registration is required for each class. Please see the Library’s online events calendar for more details.

Meet-and-Greet with the Library Social Worker

On Tuesday, June 22, from 1-3 p.m., join us on the renovated ground floor of the Central Square Branch Library to welcome our new Library Social Worker, Marie Mathieu. Marie will be available to answer questions, talk about her role at the Library, and schedule one-on-one sessions for help with issues such as referrals to area agencies, completing applications, resource navigation, and mental health/substance abuse linkage and referral.

Lamp x the CPL Present: A Book Club Walks into a Bar

You're invited to our partnership book club, where the Cambridge Public Library, Lamplighter Brewing Co., and All She Wrote Books team up to highlight contemporary works from marginalized voices. On Tuesday, June 22, at 7 p.m., we're hosting a queer-focused session of our book club by reading Time Is the Thing the Body Moves Through by T. Fleischmann. This tiny and poetic book bridges memoir, art critique, and queer-commune #goals to give us an intimate portrait of queerness in America. Registration is required.

Join Us for Story Time

We invite children and their grownups to join us from home for 20-25 minutes of engaging stories. STEAM Story Times include hands-on activities to explore science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. Plan to sing along and move around!

Wellness for Seniors: Let Your Yoga Dance®

Wellness for Seniors: Let Your Yoga Dance® is a virtual class on Thursday, June 24, at 11 a.m. Breathe, stretch, and dance your way to a blissful body, joyous heart, and a steady, quiet mind! Open to all levels and abilities. Registration is required.

Virtual Sing-Along

Children and their grownups, please join us from home on Friday, June 25, at 11 a.m., for 20-25 minutes of wiggling, dancing, and Sing-Along favorites! Caregivers are asked to participate with their children.  Registration is required.

Save the Date: Acclaimed Author Cathy Park Hong in Conversation with Courtney Sato

The Library is pleased to welcome the acclaimed author Cathy Park Hong in Conversation with Dr. Courtney Sato on Monday, June 28, from 6-7:15 p.m. Cathy Park Hong's most recent book, Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning (One World/Random House), was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction. Registration is required to participate in this event.
