New library at night

Dear Patrons,

I am especially excited to welcome a Library Trustee and friend, Kaija Langley, for a CPL Outdoor Story Time event celebrating her first children’s book, When Langston Dances, next Saturday, September 18 at 11 a.m.!

Weekend Service Returns at the Main Library and Central Square Branch

Beginning Sunday, September 12, the Main Library will be open on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., including the Children’s Room and Teen Room. Also starting this Saturday, September 11, the Central Square Branch Library will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ted Reinstein Presents: Before Brooklyn: The Unsung Heroes Who Helped Break Baseball’s Color Barrier (Virtual)

On Monday, September 13, at 6:30 p.m., Ted Reinstein discusses his book, Before Brooklyn: The Unsung Heroes Who Helped Break Baseball’s Color Barrier, which tells the story of the little-known heroes who fought segregation in baseball. He has been a reporter for Chronicle, WCVB-TV/Boston’s award-winning nightly newsmagazine, since 1997. Registration is required.

ESOL Classes (Virtual)

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes occur virtually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Introductory ESOL takes place at 11 a.m., beginner ESOL at 1 p.m., and intermediate ESOL at 3 p.m. Registration is required for each class. Please see the Library’s online events calendar for more details.

Studio Recording 101 (Main)
Tuesday, September 14, at 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday, September 15, at 4 p.m.
Saturday, September 18, at noon

Are you interested in podcasting, audio production, or video production? The Hive has two state-of-the-art recording studios! Join this hour-long workshop to become familiar with the basics of the equipment and its software. Registration is required.

You must complete Hive Safety Training & Glowforge 101 before participating in this program.

3D Printing 101 (Main)

On Friday, September 17, at 3:30 p.m., learn how to use our Sindoh 3D printers and create a design for your first 3D print in The Hive. This workshop includes a design tutorial in Tinkercad. Create a Tinkercad account at www.tinkercad.com before arriving. Parents may need to assist users under the age of 18 to create an account. Registration is required.

You must complete Hive Safety Training & Glowforge 101 before registering for this workshop.

Outdoor Story Time with Kaija Langley (Main)

On Saturday, September 18, at 11 a.m., children of all ages and their caregivers are invited to join Kaija Langley for story time outside the Main Library in Joan Lorentz Park. Kaija will read her new book, When Langston Dances, and will be available for questions and book signing. In the event of bad weather, this program will move indoors to the Children's Room. Registration is not required.

Hive Equipment and Studio Reservations (Main)

On Saturday, September 18, at 1 p.m., anyone who has completed Hive training and is badged can reserve Hive equipment or studio spaces. Staff will assist participants as they are able. Make reservations. Learn more about becoming a badged maker.
