Cambridge Public Library Foundation elects Shippen Page President of the Board

The Foundation expands private support for the Library under new President, Shippen Page, well-regarded, local community leader.

Outgoing Foundation President, Donna Davis, said: “Shippen Page is well positioned to serve in this role given his more than 30 years of service with other local Cambridge nonprofits. Shippen has lived and worked in Cambridge since 1977. A graduate of Harvard College, he raised his family here, practiced law here and has been involved in many Cambridge-based non-profits including Revels, Cambridge Youth Soccer, the Cambridge Homes, the Guidance Center, UNICEF and Cambridge at Home.”

Page helped organize the Foundation in the fall of 2015 based on his belief that the Cambridge Public Library is an essential Cambridge institution, a place where everyone can turn for information, stimulation and inclusion.

The newly elected President stated: “The Cambridge Public Library has been the center of Cambridge civic life. The Foundation’s work will strengthen the library’s capacity to continue to do so.”

Maria McCauley, Director of the Cambridge Public Library, noted: “The newly created Foundation is dedicated to increasing private support for the Library’s programs, augmenting our public funding. I look forward to working with Shippen as we continue this important work in the days to come.”

The Foundation sponsored its first public event on October 25th, DREAM BIG: The Future of Public Libraries, a highly successful program designed to explore the dynamic environment in which public libraries operate and to contribute to the Library’s vision of its future.
