Main Building Ground Floor
Dear Patrons,

This week we usher in the month of December, a Cell Phone Cinema workshop with CCTV, a Tween/Teen Virtual Hangout, our December book groups, and more!

Central Square Branch: No Services November 26 Through December 20

The Central Square Branch is currently getting new furniture in the Children’s Room, Ground Floor, Literacy Center, and Lewis Room. Consequently, contactless holds pickup, materials return, and phone service will not be available after Thursday, November 26.

Holds ready for pickup and in transit will be made available at the Central Square Branch when service resumes. Patrons may keep their borrowed items until the branch is accepting returns again or return them at another Cambridge Public Library location. The Main Library will offer phone service at 617-349-4040.

Community Yoga Series

Please join us for the final virtual community yoga program on Sunday, November 29, at 10 a.m. Yoga can help us discover greater ease, balance, and resilience within. Come experience it for yourself! Registration is required.

Becoming Odyssa: Adventures on the Appalachian Trail

On Monday, November 30, at 6 p.m., join the author of Becoming Odyssa: Adventures on the Appalachian Trail, Jennifer Pharr Davis, for a virtual event. After graduating from college, Jennifer hiked the Appalachian Trail, a 2,175-mile footpath that stretches from Georgia to Maine. The next four months were the most physically and emotionally challenging of her life. And when tragedy struck, she learned that she could depend on other people to help her. Registration is required.

Cell Phone Cinema (CCTV)

In the virtual Cell Phone Cinema workshop, you'll learn how to set up your device for filming, acquire the skills to capture the best-looking video possible, and learn how to create a story using just your smartphone! This event is scheduled on Tuesday, December 1, from 5-7 p.m. and will be taught by expert instructor Peter Levine from Cambridge Community Television. Registration is required.

Beginners American Sign Language Classes

Join SIGNING Basics for a virtual Beginners American Sign Language (ASL) class on Tuesday, December 1, at 6 p.m. Participants will learn a variety of signs and engage in activities and games to help reinforce and retain what they have learned. It’s an excellent program for beginners and intermediate learners, but individuals with advanced skills will have fun too! Registration is required.

Tween/Teen Virtual Hangout

Tweens, teens, and their caregivers are invited to a virtual hangouton Wednesday, December 2, at 4 p.m. Come say hello to your librarians, get book recommendations, research assistance, find out about the library's virtual offerings, and bring your suggestions! Breakout rooms will be available for one-on-one assistance. Registration is required.

Join us for Story Time

We invite children and their grownups to join us from home for 20-25 minutes of engaging stories. Plan to join in, sing along, and move around! Caregivers are asked to participate in the program with their children.

STEAM Story Times include hands-on activities to explore science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math; please gather your activity materials before the event. We are happy to offer these Story Time programs this week:

Registration is required for each event. Please cancel your registration if you cannot attend.

Book groups are an excellent way to connect with neighbors and friends around the joy of reading! The Cambridge Public Library offers a number of virtual book groups this month:

Registration is required to attend the book groups.
