Main Library

Patriots’ Day

All Cambridge Public Library locations will be closed for Patriots’ Day on Monday, April 19. Contactless Holds Pickup and phone service will not be available; however, the outside book drop at the Main Library will remain open for returns.

Vacation Week Programs

Take some time off from school and have some fun with the Library! Registration is required for each event.

Virtual ESOL Classes

Virtual English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Introductory ESOL takes place at 11 a.m., beginner ESOL at 1 p.m., and intermediate ESOL at 3 p.m. Registration is required for each class. Please see the online events calendar for more details.

Dina Gilio-Whitaker presents As Long as Grass Grows in conversation with Daniel Faber

On Tuesday, April 20, at 7 p.m., celebrate Earth Day with a thought-provoking discussion featuring Dina Gilio-Whitaker, the author of As Long as Grass Grows: The Indigenous Fight for Environmental Justice from Colonization to Standing Rock, in conversation with Professor Daniel Faber. Registration is required.

Virtual Baby Lapsit

Toddlers and their caregivers are invited to enjoy time together with other parents, caregivers, and babies to learn, play, and develop language and motor skills in this six-week series, Wednesdays at 10 a.m. from April 21 through May 26.  Registering for one will sign you up for all the sessions. Registration is required.

Tween/Teen Virtual Hangout Yoga Sessions with Jaylee Momplaisir

Tweens and teens, join us on Wednesday, April 21, at 4 p.m., to readjust your mind and body with this all-level gentle yoga practice consisting of a slow Vinyasa flow, long-held supported poses, and calming breath work. The class will take 45 minutes, and blocks or books, blankets, and pillows are recommended. Registration is required.

Alternative Medicine Exploration: An Introduction to Medical Cannabis

Modern research suggests that cannabis can promote wellness and can be a valuable aid in the treatment of a wide range of conditions. Join us virtually on Wednesday, April 21, at 7 p.m., for an information session with Julie Battel, CNM, MPH, and Caitlin Bernhard, MSN, NP, of CED Clinic to learn about the various forms and effects of medical cannabis and about the Massachusetts program’s qualifying medical conditions. Registration is required.

We invite children and their grownups to join us from home for 20-25 minutes of engaging stories. Plan to sing along and move around!

The online Career Skills workshop series, presented by the employment specialist Gary Gekow, will cover the fundamentals of looking for a job, from writing a strong résumé to preparing for a virtual interview. Family STEAM Night: Art Machines

On Thursday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m., we will explore simple machines through hands-on making. Design a system of moving parts to bring your mechanical grabbing machine to life! Registration is required.

BUT ALSO HOPE: A Poetry Reading

Join us for a special reading on Thursday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m., in honor of National Poetry Month! BUT ALSO HOPE will feature three amazing poets reading from their latest work: Shira Erlichman (Odes to Lithium, Alice James Books), Yanyi (The Year of Blue Water, Yale University Press), and Asiya Wadud (No Knowledge Is Complete Until It Passes Through My Body, Nightboat Books). Virtual Sing-Along

Children and their grownups, please join us from home on Friday, April 23, at 11 a.m., for 20-25 minutes of wiggling, dancing, and Sing-Along favorites! Caregivers are asked to participate with their children. Plan to sing along and move around! Registration is required.

Podcasting from Home (CCTV)

On Friday, April 23, at noon, learn the process and best ways for inviting, setting up, testing, and recording an interview-style podcast from home. Demonstrations will take place on a Mac, but they are can also apply to PCs. Registration is required.
