The Whys and Whens of Car Maintenance
On Monday, April 5, at 7 p.m., Chaya Milchtein will present an overview of car maintenance that will save you time, money, and hassles. Learn when (and why!) to perform specific maintenance tasks, including changing oil and filters, tire pressure, coolant, and much more. Registration is required.
Virtual ESOL Classes
Virtual English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Introductory ESOL takes place at 11 a.m., beginner ESOL at 1 p.m., and intermediate ESOL at 3 p.m. Registration is required for each class. Please see the Library’s online events calendar for more details.
Google Drawing 101: Sticker Design
On Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m., learn the fundamentals of Google Drawing to design and edit images for your own vinyl stickers. You'll also learn about our vinyl cutter machine. Participants may share a completed design file, which will be made into a sticker in The Hive, and arrange to collect it using our Contactless Holds Pickup service. Basic computer skills are necessary to take this class. Registration is required.
Tween/Teen Virtual Hangout
Tweens, teens, and their caregivers are invited to drop in on Wednesday, April 7, at 4 p.m. Say hello to your librarians, get book recommendations and research assistance, find out about the Library's virtual offerings, and bring your suggestions! Registration is required.
Honku! and the Fear of Writing Poetry
On Wednesday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m., free your inner poet in this virtual workshop with Betty Hauck! Using a special technique, you will write your own poem, and your building blocks will be "found" words. You will need a few magazines and/or newspapers you can cut up, scissors, tape or a glue stick, and a few sheets of copy paper. Registration is required.

We invite children and their grownups to join us from home for 20-25 minutes of engaging stories. Plan to sing along, and move around!

Wellness for Seniors: Low Impact Fitness
Wellness for Seniors: Low Impact Fitness is a virtual class scheduled for Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. It is designed for people of all levels to strengthen the muscles, the heart, and the brain --all while having fun and moving to great music! Take everything at your own pace. You will feel the benefits in mind and body! Registration is required.
Linked Descendants: African American Genealogy Before 1870
Join us on Thursday, April 8, at noon for a workshop with Sharon Leslie Morgan, a renowned genealogist and the founder of Our Black Ancestry, as we delve into African American ancestry before abolition. Researching these families before the 1870 Census is a challenge that may be overcome by finding linked descendants -- or the white families who enslaved most of the Black population. Learn new research techniques and use genealogy as a tool for confronting slavery and achieving healing. Registration is required.
Virtual Sing-Along
Children and their grownups are invited to join us on Friday, April 9, at 11 a.m., from home for 20-25 minutes of wiggling, dancing, and Sing-Along favorites! Caregivers are asked to participate in the program with their children; plan to sing and move around! Registration is required.
Being One with Earth: Telling Stories with Papercutting
On Saturday, April 10, at noon, tell the stories of species extinction, the interconnectivity of various life forms, and the art of living together by creating a multimedia presentation using a combination of traditional Chinese papercutting, watercolor, poetry, video, and digital animation. Create your own style of storytelling using any combination of these mediums! Registration is required.
John Lewis: Good Trouble Virtual Roundtable Discussion (& Film)
Voices for Justice is a free, virtual series of events from the Cambridge Public Library Foundation in support of the Library's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The next event will be a roundtable discussion featuring local activists and community leaders and a free screening of the film John Lewis: Good Trouble. You are encouraged to view the film before the discussion (a link will be provided to registered attendees on April 10). The discussion will take place on April 13 at 7:30 p.m. The speakers include Danielle Allen, Elijah Booker, the Reverend Ray Hammond, and Shirley Mark. Registration is required.
