Boudreau Branch Library

Dear Patrons, 

Please join us for one of the many events at the Cambridge Public Library this week! 

Baby Lapsit (Virtual) 

On Monday, December 13, at 10 a.m., enjoy time together with other parents, caregivers, and babies to learn, play, and develop language and motor skills. Come prepared to sit with your baby in your lap. Registration is required

Outdoor Programming for Kids 

Weekly outdoor programs for young children will be offered (weather permitting) at our Central Square, Collins, Main, O’Connell, O’Neill, and Valente locations:  

  • Outdoor Baby Lapsit: Just for you and your baby! Enjoy time with other parents, caregivers, and babies to play and develop language and motor skills.  
  • Outdoor Sing-Along: All ages are invited to sing and dance! 
  • Outdoor Songs & Stories: All ages are invited to sing, dance, and share a story! 
  • Outdoor Story Time: All ages are invited to join us for a half hour of stories! 

Please see our events calendar for all outdoor youth program details. Registration is not required. 

Wellness for Seniors: Let Your Yoga Dance (Virtual) 

On Monday, December 13, at 11 a.m., breathe, stretch, and dance your way to a blissful body, joyous heart, and a steady, quiet mind! Open to all levels and abilities. Registration is required

Teen Advisory Board (Main) 

Calling all teens! On Monday, December 13, at 4 p.m., meet with your librarians and your peers to help plan programs and guide the Library in supporting Cambridge teens. Participation counts toward community service. Call 617-349-4027, stop by the Teen Room to sign up, or just come to the meeting! 

Winter Bike Maintenance (Valente) 

Learn how to keep your bicycle in tiptop shape -- whether you are getting ready to store your bike for the winter or trying to keep up with winter wear and tear! This hands-on workshop, Monday, December 13, at 6 p.m., will cover cleaning, lubricating, and the ABCs (Air, Brakes, Chain) of bicycle maintenance, with time at the end for any questions you may have on basic repairs. Bring your own bike or work on one provided by the instructor. Registration is required

Held in collaboration with Cambridge’s Community Development Department. 

ESOL Classes (Central Square/Virtual) 

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes occur virtually on Tuesday this week. Beginner ESOL takes place at 1 p.m. and Intermediate ESOL at 3 p.m.  

Intermediate classes will also be offered in person at the Central Square Branch on Tuesday and Thursday at 11 a.m., and Beginner ESOL will be offered on Wednesday and Friday at 10:30 a.m. 

Registration is required for each class. 

Financial Literacy 101: Fraud (Virtual) 

Scam artists prey on victims by earning their trust, by taking advantage of them, and by using scare tactics. Developing a healthy skepticism will help to protect all of us from these individuals. By learning and applying the concepts from this interactive workshop on Tuesday, December 14, at 6 p.m., participants will better understand how to shield themselves from fraud. Registration is required

Winter Biking Bash (Main) 

Join Cambridge’s Community Development staff and Bike Committee members on Tuesday, December 14, at 6 p.m. to talk about all things winter biking: from gear and how to winterize your bicycle to considerations and techniques for riding in inclement weather. Share your questions, winter riding tips and tricks, and/or favorite winter biking gear! Registration is required

Glowforge 101: Creative Laser Cutting, Part 2 (Main) 

Tuesday, December 14, 6:30 p.m. 
Wednesday, December 15, 2 p.m. 

Learn how to cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of materials using the Glowforge Pro laser cutter in this two-part series. In Part 2, you will create digital artwork for the Glowforge and learn file formatting for production. Registration is required

Note: Only those who sign up for Part 1 of this series can participate in Part 2. You will be badged for laser cutting at the end of the Part 2 workshop and can reserve the Glowforge Pro for use during designated times. 

You must complete Hive Safety Training before participating in this program. 

Hive Safety Training (Virtual) 

In this workshop on Tuesday, December 14, at 8 p.m., you will learn about our makerspace, how to use our resources, and how to keep safe in The Hive. Registration is required

Before attending workshops in The Hive, all makers must bring signed copies of The Hive User Agreement and Waivers

Résumé and Job Application Support (Central Square) 

Would you like help creating a résumé or looking for jobs? Join us on Wednesday, December 15, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Central Square Branch for help with résumés, job hunting, and online applications. No registration is required. 

Pajama Story Time (Virtual) 

Children and their grown-ups, join us from home on Wednesday, December 15, at 6:45 p.m., for 20-25 minutes of fun and scary songs and stories for a late December treat! Feel free to wear your favorite pajamas or a fun costume! Caregivers are asked to participate with their children. Registration is required

Family Story Time (Virtual) 

Children and their grown-ups, join us from home on Thursday, December 16, at 4 p.m. for 20-25 minutes of songs, stories, and rhymes. Caregivers are asked to participate with their children--it will be as important as ever to model movement and song for your little one during this virtual session. Plan to join in, sing along, and move around! Registration is required

XR Lab 101 (Main) 

Extended reality (XR) opens the door to worlds and experiences outside the everyday through virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality equipment. On Friday, December 17, at 3:30 p.m., test drive our Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality glasses, Structure Sensor 3D scanner, Merge headsets, and more. Registration is required.  

You must complete Hive Safety Training or Hive Safety Training & Glowforge 101 before registering for this workshop. 

Studio Recording 101 (Main) 

Are you interested in podcasting, audio production, or video production? The Hive has two state-of-the-art recording studios! Join this workshop on Saturday, December 18, at 11 a.m., to become familiar with studio equipment and software. Registration is required.  

You must complete Hive Safety Training or Hive Safety Training & Glowforge 101 before registering for this workshop. 

Vinyl Cutting 101 (Main) 

In this workshop on Saturday, December 18, at 2 p.m., you can learn how to use our Roland Camm-1 GS-24 vinyl cutter to make your own vinyl signs, stickers, or images to transfer to T-shirts and other textiles. You can then design a sticker and cut it with our vinyl cutter! Registration is required.  

You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.
